  • Japan to Pick New Nuclear Watchdog's Head from Private Sector

    Tokyo, Jan. 31 (Jiji Press)--The Japanese government plans to select the first head of a new nuclear regulatory agency not from among bureaucrats but from the private sector, the minister in charge of the nuclear crisis said Tuesday.

    While noting that the new agency's head "should be an expert in nuclear regulations and technologies," Goshi Hosono told a press conference, "a break with the past is needed now."
